In the commencement ceremony broadcast live from in front of the Tsinghua Auditorium, the university awarded degrees to around 6,600 postgraduate students of the class of 2020. 2,138 students have been awarded doctoral degrees, while 4,461 others have been awarded master’s degrees.   Unlike Tsinghua’s traditional commencement ceremonies, this year’s ceremony did not feature a degree conferring ceremony. However, the university has offered graduating students the opportunity to return to the university to participate in a future degree conferring ceremony.   The online commencement ceremony was livestreamed world-wide on various media and social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter in both Chinese and English. They have been extensively used to treat infectious diseases, various forms of cancer and autoimmune diseases. The team led by Prof. Zhang Linqi from the School of Medicine and Prof. Zhang Zheng from Shenzhen Third People’s Hospital have just reported their successful isolation of 206 monoclonal antibodies from 8 COVID-19 patients. Some of these antibodies demonstrated highly potent  neutralizing activity against live COVID-19 virus. These antibodies represent promising candidates for clinical interventions against COVID-19 virus. These new results have just been posted on the online verion of Nature (weblink here).   https://www.istudy-china.com/  On 11 May 2020, Professor Hua Feng and his collaborators reported in Nature Astronomy a re-detection of soft X-ray polarization from the Crab nebula with the space program PolarLight, indicating that this long-awaited window in astronomy has been reopened after more than 40 years since the OSO-8 experiment in the 1970s. More interestingly, PolarLight discovered a time variation of polarization that coincides in time with a glitch of the Crab pulsar. The variation is associated with the pulsar emission but not the nebular emission, suggesting that the pulsar magnetosphere may have altered after the glitch. PolarLight is a dedicated soft X-ray polarimeter onboard a CubeSat manufactured by Spacety.
